The Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Prof. Adebayo Bamire, has urged 2023/2024 graduands to apply the knowledge, skills, and values gained in the University for the advancement of Nigeria and the global community.

Bamire gave the advice in his address at the 49th Convocation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session at Oduduwa Amphitheatre Hall on Friday in Ile-Ife.

He congratulated and rejoiced with all graduands for their unwavering dedication to academic excellence, saying that their hard work, resilience, and commitment have earned them the various degrees and honours conferred during the Convocation.

"The University Administration remains firmly committed to strengthening the standards of teaching, research, and service in their institution, for upholding the founding objectives of OAU is of utmost importance to us.

"We will continue to deploy our human and material resources strategically to ensure sustainable development and to drive accelerated institutional growth.

"The University currently offers 94 NUC-accredited academic programmes, providing our students with broad and robust training opportunities across diverse disciplines," he stated.

Bamire listed the University's achievements within the 2024 and 2025 Convocation as: "Inaugural Future Minds AI & Robotics Boot Camp (Community Service/Youth Development) August 4-8, 2025.

The University has maintained a strong commitment to sustaining its infrastructure through comprehensive renovation efforts, leveraging financial support primarily from TETFund and the Federal Government's Capital Appropriation.

He called on the Federal Government, stakeholders, groups, and individuals to assist them with the challenges they are facing, some of which are: completion of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Project, which is nearly 70% complete.

"New Senate building funded by CBN, currently stalled at 30-35% completion since 2023, we request the Senate President's special intervention to secure funds for the completion.

"Students' hostels and lecture theaters which the University urgently appeals for the Senate President's support in securing funding for the construction of additional lecture theaters and student hostels," he listed.

According to him, completion of the projects will provide a conducive, safe, and secure environment for the University by providing a stable electricity supply.
