Mr. Akinokun Olusola, the National President of University of Ibadan (Osun College of Education Ilesa) Alumni Association, has called on old students of the institution to join them to build a stronger community and network.
According to Olusola, the Alumni is created for the upliftment of the old students of UI (OSCOED) and better welfare of members.
The president made the call at the 6th annual reunion of the Association in Osogbo, Osun, tagged: Oroki 2025.
"I want to use this opportunity to encourage all our over 20,000 members (old students) who graduated from the institution to come together and join us, so we can make this Alumni a great association, irrespective of whatever you have.
"We have so many great people who are part of the association. In Osun State alone, we can be proud of six of our members who are Senior Special Advisers to the governor.
"We are not concerned about one person being rich or the other person being poor, no! We want to come together to assist one another.
"What you have, I may not have, and what I have, you may not have. Coming together will be for the upliftment of ourselves to a level where, when we see ourselves tomorrow, we will be proud to say these are our members.
"We are reaching out to every member from 2001 set to 2025 set, that everyone should join us, irrespective of where you are.
"We have members in the US, UK, and an anchor in Canada, Comrade Alaka Babatunde.
"We have some members of the association who have assisted our members to travel abroad," he said.
He said if members do not come to join them, the association will not know what they need, so he appealed to members to come join the association and let them reason together.
Mr. Babatunde Fabeku, the Osun Chairman of the Alumni, said the reunion is for their members to share issues and encouragement in order for them to progress and sail the waters of life.
Fabeku said the Alumni has done a lot in terms of assisting members with health challenges and those who are handicapped, and that the reunion is meant to make them feel among and happy—hopeful about life.
The guest lecturer at the event, Prof. Dapo Adelokun, a Professor of Economics Education and Management, spoke on the topic "Harnessing Innovation for Future-Ready Success."
Adelokun told the alumni what they needed to navigate the changing tides of time and how to adapt before they become irrelevant or are left behind.
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilesa, ably represented by Dr. Posi Aduroja, Director, Institute of Centre of Education, admonished the alumni to allow their wards to take up IT training to keep up with the changes in time.
The two-day Annual General Meeting of the Association kicked off with members arriving on Friday, sharing success stories, having dinner, networking, swimming, and having a Social Night plus Asun and Palm Wine Gyration Night till dawn.
Some members of the Alumni were given awards of recognition for their achievements and contributions to the association.
