OSUN 2026: IFE TRADITIONAL RULERS URGE POLITICAL PARTIES TO EMBRACE PEACE

Two prominent traditional rulers in Ile-Ife, the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura, and the Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Adekola Adeyeye, have urged politicians to embrace peace.

The traditional rulers made the call while addressing journalists at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

Oba Adediwura said peace, which has remained an essential ingredient maintained by the Ooni, must be embraced by all political gladiators before, during and after the election.

The Obalufe warned that anyone found engaging in violence would not go unpunished, stressing that security agencies would apply the law against perpetrators.

He therefore appealed to political actors, supporters and residents of Ife Land to maintain peace throughout the 2026 Osun Governorship Election and beyond.

In his submission, Oba Adekola Adeyeye urged stakeholders not to undermine the peace-building efforts of the Ooni through selfish political interests.

The Lowa Adimula affirmed the readiness of security personnel to arrest anyone fomenting trouble before, during and after the governorship election.

He urged political parties and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully, saying the development and unity of Ife Land should remain paramount.

The traditional rulers commended the Ooni for his fatherly role in maintaining peace and promoting development across Ife Land, Osun and the wider society.

They urged all stakeholders to support the Ooni's peace initiatives and ensure that the 2026 Osun Governorship Election is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
