Man remanded over alleged stealing govt school iron sheet worth N1.5 m

An Ile-Ife Magistrates' Court on Monday, remanded a 26-year-old man, Jegede Adebowale, for allegedly theft government school iron sheet worth N1.5 m.


The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 13, 2025 around 05:00 am at Oranmiyan Memorial Grammar School, Road 7, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant entered into the premises of Oranmiyan Memorial Grammar School, Road 7, Ile-Ife with intent to commit felony therein.

He added that the defendant maliciously and unlawfully removed and damaged some iron sheets valued N1.5 million from five classrooms in Oranmiyan Memorial Grammar School, property of Osun State Government.

According to him, the defendant stole 300 pieces iron sheets valued N1.5 million, property of Osun State Government.

The Prosecutor stated further that the offence was contrary to section 383 and punishable under sections 390(9), 411 and 453 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to three-count charge of: entering, malicious damage and stealing.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi did not grant the bail of the defendant, but ordered for his remand in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service.

Sarumi adjourned the case until July 14, for hearing of the fact.
