Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola on Wednesday empowered 3,000 market women and men in Ogun Central with N75,000 cash grants each.
Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, spoke during the fifth edition of the "Oloja Yayi" empowerment programme at Ake Pavilion, Alake's Palace, Abeokuta.
The senator said the initiative complements President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda by supporting micro and small businesses through partnership with the National Productivity Centre.
He described the scheme as a micro-financing intervention aimed at cushioning economic hardship and improving the livelihoods of vulnerable traders across Ogun State.
Adeola recalled that the programme began in February 2023 with 5,000 traders receiving N25,000 each during his senatorial campaign in Ogun West.
He said another 5,000 traders received N50,000 each in January 2024, while the grant increased to N75,000 in April 2025.
According to him, the fifth edition is segmented by senatorial districts, with Ogun Central becoming the first beneficiary of the latest phase.
He said all 3,000 beneficiaries received the N75,000 grants directly into their phones to strengthen their businesses.
Adeola said similar empowerment programmes for Ogun East and Ogun West senatorial districts would follow in the coming weeks.
He said the programme had expanded beyond cash grants to include market infrastructure projects across communities in Ogun State.
According to him, 43 modern markets have been constructed across Ogun West alongside solar-powered boreholes and solar street lights in major markets.
Adeola said nine market-related projects are ongoing in Ogun Central, including ultra-modern markets, solar lighting and motorised boreholes.
He disclosed that ultra-modern markets at Isaga-Orile and Panseke would be completed within the next few months.
The senator said beneficiaries were selected without favouritism and urged them to invest the grants prudently to expand their businesses.
He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the programme beyond 2027 to improve the welfare of traders and residents.
Adeola expressed confidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda and Gov. Dapo Abiodun's initiatives would continue to stimulate economic growth in Ogun.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, commended Adeola for complementing government efforts through empowerment and infrastructure projects.
Former Speaker of the Ogun House of Assembly, Mrs Titi Oseni, also praised the senator for extending developmental initiatives across the state's three senatorial districts.
