Positive Mindset, Foundation for a Great Nation — Muslim Association

The Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates' Association (UNIFEMGA) has said that a positive mindset is the foundation for a great nation, urging citizens to imbibe it in order to grow Nigeria in all spheres of life.

This is contained in a communiqué issued and signed by the National President and Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Muhammed Buari and Sefiu Ikudaisi, at the end of the 2026 Annual National Re-Union Conference held on Sunday at OAU in Ile-Ife.

The three-day reunion, held between May 8 and May 10 at the University Campus in Ile-Ife, was themed "The Potential within Nigeria: Positive Mindset and Communication for Success" and commenced with a special Jumat service at the OAU Central Mosque of Unity, Ile-Ife.

The Association paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, and other Principal Officers of the Institution.

The Association observed that Nigeria possesses abundant human and material resources capable of transforming the country into a global force, if citizens embrace positive attitudes, patriotism, and collective responsibility.

UNIFEMGA, however, expressed concern that negative narratives and disunity have continued to undermine the country's development potential.

They further noted that Islam encourages development and supports the adoption of modern ideas and technologies that improve human life within the principles of the religion.

Among its resolutions, the Association stressed that Nigeria's progress depends largely on the mindset of its citizens and their willingness to contribute meaningfully to national growth.

They also called on Nigerian youths to remain hopeful and focus on solutions capable of advancing the nation, while urging stakeholders to promote peace, discipline, productivity, and unity.

The Association advocated stronger collaboration between universities and the private sector to ensure sustainable research and innovation.

They further identified brain drain, obsolete equipment, disruption of academic calendars, and outdated curricula as major challenges confronting tertiary institutions in the country, urging the government to urgently address them.

UNIFEMGA also called on the government to create an enabling business environment through improved electricity supply, infrastructure, and human capital development, while advocating increased employment opportunities for unemployed youths to prevent their exploitation for violent activities.

The Association concluded that a positive mindset remains the foundation for building a prosperous nation and urged Nigerians to imbibe values that would foster growth and national development.

"As part of its welfare initiatives, the Association awarded 140 scholarships worth ₦14.6 million to students of the University.

"UNIFEMGA disclosed that since the inception of the scholarship scheme in the 2009/2010 academic session, a total of ₦103.4 million has been disbursed to 1,148 students."

The Association also launched a ₦200 million endowment fund for widows and orphans of members.
