Dr Bisi Anyadike, the Proprietress, Sunshine Nursery and Primary School, has said that they shared food with over 200 less privileged and beggars to mark Valentine with a heartwarming celebration centered on love, kindness, and patriotism.
Sunshine Nursery and Primary School at Road 7, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Campus Gate shared the cooked food on Saturday, at Sabo and New Market Area, in Ile-Ife.
The Proprietress stated that the pupils engaged in several activities and were encouraged to bring food items and other donations to school for distribution to the homeless beggars in Ile-Ife.
According to her, the school celebrates Valentine Day every year in different forms, for it is important that as the children are growing up to learn academically, they must also learn how to value humanity.
Anyadike explained that the school used the opportunity of Valentine to pass the message of love across that, Valentine is not only love between boyfriend and girlfriend, but to show love to the needy too.
She expressed further that the event was full of fun, engaging, and impactful and helped pupils to develop essential values and life skills, to foster a sense of participation.
The Director emphasized that the children celebrated Valentine successfully, instilling in pupils the true meaning of love in its many forms: care, compassion, respect, and service to others.
"We decided that all of them should contribute to sharing love with the less privileged than them, and brainstorm on the homeless and beggars.
"So we sent them to their parents to contribute towards cooking jollof rice, they contributed two bags of rice with ingredients and distributed meals to the homeless.
"This year we decided to teach love in all ramifications with synonyms of love, we have the list of long words associated with love and brought out different meanings to make the message real, make them feel it and possibly live it as they grow," she emphasized.
Among the list of synonyms for love formed by children are: devotion, affection, adoration, gratitude, fondness, tenderness, passion, attachment, sentiment, warmth, kindness, friendship, empathy, sympathy, gratitude, concern, regards and respect among others.
We recall that people celebrate "Valentine Day" every February 14th.
