The UNIFEMGA urged government to intensify efforts on the nation's security, saying that security agencies in the country are doing a great job but they should step it up to curb all these restrictiveness.

The annual reunion which began with a courtesy visit to the institution's management where some salient issues affecting the institution were discussed followed by networking to mould young entrepreneurs sponsored by the association's BoT chairman, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti.

The Association disbursed the sum of #12.25 million to 118 students of the institution as scholarship for the year 2025.

A public lecture was delivered by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adeniyi on the topic: CROSS-BORDER TRADE AND SECURITY IMPLICATIONS ON THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY: TAKING ADVANTAGE OF GLOBAL TRADE DYNAMICS.

Highlighting the purpose of this year's reunion which is aimed to educate the populace for Nigeria to strive to be self-sufficient and produce as much as it need and reduce or eliminate frivolous importation into the country.

Trade policies must protect local economy from excessive importation, empower local business to export and ensure adequate security for its citizenry.

The conference resolutions are that the failure of leadership in Nigeria in the past has caused the nation a lot of challenges ranging from civil strife, insurgency, banditry corruption, economic comatose, political rascality and social disorder on the increase.

The series of security crises we are witnessing in the country is due largely to insensitivity on the part of our leaders, inadequate intelligence gathering on the part of the security agencies all of which constitute a great challenge to good governance and a threat to democracy and economic growth in the country.

Nigeria's position as one of Africa'a largest economy provide unique leverage to establish leadership in secure trade practices with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) framework and beyond considering our size, geographic location and economic diversity.

The conference commends the recent launching of Nigeria's First Policy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's as well as other various creative reforms introduced by the Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adeniyi which has tripled the revenue generation of the service.

It is expected that the renewed hope agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is supposed to reset Nigeria's economic advancement and ease the burden of hardship on the citizenry, but thus far, the selfish activities of some saboteurs and unpatriotic nature of some Nigerian made the last two years a tough one for everybody.

The conference places onus on all elected and appointed leaders to be responsive to needs and aspirations of the citizenry and to embrace good governance, fairness, justice to all as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and make the fear of Allah their watchword, in order to forestall uprising in the country.

It alluded that since Nigeria is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic society, efforts should be geared towards upholding the letter and spirit of the principle of the Federal Character without sacrificing merit in all governmental affairs in appointments and recruitment.

The Conference condemn in strong terms the terrorists act in some parts of the country, mob actions, jungle and selective killings of innocent Nigerians, we advise the Federal Government to avoid the present stereotype of pigeon-holing it as a religious issue. It is more of a political, ethnic and economic issue.

The Conference recommends the Islamic concept of leadership which is rooted in institutionalization of the principles of fairness, justice, integrity, transparency and competency rather than patronages.

It concluded that Nigerian leaders as well as Nigerians to live in peace and harmony, learn to tolerate one another, be fair to all and remember that injustice breeds uprising and violent acts.
